Bridge dedication held to honor fallen 167th firefighter

U.S. Staff Sgt. Andrew Bartley, 167th Honor Guard member, places a wreath during the bridge dedication ceremony, Dec. 3, 2022. The Tabler Station Overpass was renamed the U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Logan A. Young Memorial Bridge. Young was a firefighter for the 167th Airlift Wing and lost his life while fighting a fire Dec. 27, 2020.

Remedial Investigation fieldwork underway at 167th AW

Rock Water Drilling company uses a geoprobe machine to collect soil borings as part of a remedial investigation for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the 167th Airlift Wing, Shepherd Field, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Nov. 15, 2022. The borings are classified by geologists and samples are collected for further lab testing. The remedial investigation is part of a long-term study to determine the extent of PFAS in the ground at the base. The PFAS contamination has been attributed to the use of aqueous film forming foam previously used to fight fuel fires.

Best Warrior is an annual event where participants compete in a series of warrior training tasks including weapons proficiency on the M4 rifle, 9mm pistol, land navigation, physical fitness, combat first aid, tactical movements, communications, and professional development activities.
