Reporting Options

A Survivor speaking with a SAPR team member does not initiate a report. A Survivor may only be seeking information and/or guidance. A report (unrestricted or restricted) is initiated by the signing of a DD Form 2910.

A Restricted Report allows you to receive health care, mental health care, victim advocacy services, and legal support. However, this option does not trigger an investigation (unless a mandatory reporter is notified). Information will be provided to command that does not reveal your identity, nor that of the alleged offender. Command will be unable to provide support due to the identity being unknown to them. A victim may elect to convert a Restricted Report to an Unrestricted Report at any time.

An Unrestricted Report allows you to receive health care, mental health care, victim advocacy services, and legal support. This option is recommended for victims of sexual assault who desire an official investigation and command notification. Upon notification of a reported sexual assault, the SARC will immediately assign a SAPR VA and inform the victim of their right to speak to a Special Victims Counsel. Details regarding the incident will be limited to a need to know.

An unrestricted report can also be initiated by a third party notifying the command, SARC, or VA that an incident took place. A third-party report does not mandate that a Survivor’s restricted report will have to be converted to an unrestricted report, however the command has a responsibility to imitate an investigation if they are aware that a criminal act is taking place within their area of responsibility.
