Retirment Information

You can request retirement from your Military Personnel Office when you have 20 years of credible service.

Qualified ARNG personnel retire and begin to draw retired pay at age 60, or any date thereafter that. Due to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, “REDUCED AGE RETIREMENT”, qualified personnel may retire under the age of 60, however not less than 50.

However, eligibility for Tricare will not start until age 60.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Retiree Appreciation Day 2023 | March 10 & 11, 2023, at Camp Dawson, in Kingwood WV.

The West Virginia National Guard would like to cordially invite you to participate in the second annual West Virginia Military Retiree Appreciation Day (RAD), sponsored by the West Virginia National Guard and the West Virginia Retired Military Council, to be held 10-11 March 2023.

The event location has been confirmed as the Regional Training Institute on Camp Dawson at 1001 Army Road, Kingwood, WV 26537.

Please remember that although the event is sponsored by the West Virginia Retired Military Council and the Department of the Army, this is an all-service and all-retiree event for Retirees of all components of the Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and other Department of Defense military Retirees, their Families and Survivors.

The West Virginia Retired Military Council is a Department of Army recognized and chartered organization, the first of its kind under a state National Guard Command. The council itself has representatives from all services, and the RAD is aimed at providing critical information and services to all West Virginia military retirees, regardless of branch of service.

The RAD provides a venue for military Retirees of all branches of service to get updates on their service, benefits, issues, and to reconnect with their service and veteran service support organizations. Since West Virginia has no active-duty military bases, this event will be most important for those military retirees who are otherwise isolated from their service connections.
