753rd Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)


Mission: Provide EOD support to unified land operations by detecting, identifying, conducting on-site evaluation, rendering safe, exploiting, and achieving final disposition of all explosive ordnance; reduce or eliminate hazards associated with conventional Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD); collect and process biometric and technical intelligence for exploitation; provide support to federal, state, and local agencies as well as foreign governments.

753rd EOD

Overview and History: The 753rd Ordnance Company (EOD) was activated on 1 October 2004 at Camp Dawson, West Virginia and achieved 100% manning of 23 Soldiers in the first year. The unit supported Operation Iraqi Freedom with five individual Soldier mobilizations, Operation Enduring Freedom with six individual Soldier mobilizations, and Operation New Dawn with one individual Soldier mobilization. The entire Company has supported Operation Joint Guardian with KFOR-8 from 2006-2007, KFOR-11 from 2008-2009, and KFOR-12 from 2009-2010, deployed to Kuwait for Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013, and deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in 2019 where the unit was awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation.

Background on the 753rd OD CO (EOD):

The 753rd OD CO (EOD) is an all-volunteer force composed of 33 Soldiers from the West Virginia Army National Guard and operates with a Headquarters Section and three EOD Platoons. The Company can deploy as an entire entity or deploy EOD Platoons or EOD Teams to meet mission requirements. During drill, the unit focuses on full-spectrum EOD operations, to include Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response, counter-IED, conventional ordnance identification and render safe procedures, demolition operations, robotics training, x-ray implementation and interpretation, and dismounted operations for Special Forces support.

Due to the quality of training and leadership, Soldiers travel from all over the United States to be a part of the organization. Over half of the Soldiers in the 753rd OD CO (EOD) travel from Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, New Mexico, and Washington.
