Ascend Heroes

Ascend Heroes is a first-of-its-kind program designed to help U.S. veterans build their next chapter in West Virginia by offering financial incentives and connecting them with communities across the state. The program supports veterans looking to live, work, and thrive in the Mountain State while strengthening West Virginia’s workforce and communities. 

Program Benefits

Participants selected for Ascend Heroes receive:

  • $12,000 incentive paid over two years
  • Access to Ascend communities across the state
  • Opportunities to connect with local communities, careers, and outdoor recreation 

Eligible Communities

Participants may choose to settle in:

  • Charleston Area
  • Greenbrier Valley
  • Morgantown Area
  • Eastern Panhandle
  • Greater Elkins
  • New River Gorge 

 

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. veteran
  • Work full-time remotely, own a remote-capable business, or secure full-time employment in West Virginia
  • Meet all program eligibility requirements and provide required documentation 

About Ascend Heroes

Ascend Heroes was created through a partnership between the State of West Virginia, the Wing 2 Wing Foundation, and West Virginia University. The program builds on the success of Ascend WV, which has welcomed more than 1,400 new residents to West Virginia since 2021.
