U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Kevin Culbert, 167th Medical Group commander, defines the term extremism while briefing members of the 167th Medical Group and wing headquarters as part of an extremism stand down during May’s unit training assembly at the 167th Airlift Wing, Martinsburg, West Virginia, May 1, 2021. The wing held the stand down at the direction of the Secretary of Defense in an effort to combat extremism in the ranks.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Daniel Coffman and Senior Airman Justin Ashby, firefighters for the 167th Civil Engineering Squadron, recently saved a man’s life, pulling him out of a burning house. The firefighters credit the feat to their intensive training.

STARBASE teams collaborate to deliver STEM education

Martinsburg STARBASE and the Winchester STARBASE Academy staffs, photographed here in a Martinsburg STARBASE classroom April 8, 2021, collaborated recently to deliver their science, technology engineering and math lessons to students in Virginia and West Virginia. Typically students travel to the STARBASE locations, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Winchester, Virginia, but various COVID-19 pandemic policies in the schools created limitations on how the curriculum could be presented.
