Senior leaders of the West Virginia Army National Guard recently welcomed the return to the United States of more than 130 Soldiers from the 3664th Support Maintenance Company (SMC) who completed a nine-month deployment to Kuwait.

The 3664th SMC’s mission is to support maintenance operations to all units within the West Virginia Army National Guard. While deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, the unit performed the same mission set, only their focused efforts were in support of Task Force Hannibal located at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. 

During their deployment, the 3664th SMC was instrumental in keeping the operational readiness rate of the ground fleet well above the 95 percent threshold, conducting their assigned mission flawlessly.

While deployed, the unit had 13 Soldiers supporting four different Forward Logistics Element (FLE) locations in various counties, completed 17 Recovery Missions supporting 34 convoys, performed two haul missions supporting 5th Special Forces Group and the Kuwait Ministry of Interior, maintained 11 pieces of FLE equipment and completed 2,013 work orders (1458 customer, 555 organic).

“Once again, our Soldiers deployed while supporting a major command and performed flawlessly,” said WVNG Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. James Hoyer. “The hours and days spent training lead to a successful mission, where the 3664^th not only kept above a 95 percent success rate, but brought everyone home safe.”

“I’d like to thank the Soldiers for a job well done, as well as thank the families and communities who supported the mission back in West Virginia,” Hoyer said. “We appreciate those who support our Soldiers – their employers, churches, and community – and also the support our families receive. Nine months is a long time and takes many people to make it successful.”

The 3664th SMC is a subordinate unit of the 771st Troop Command Battalion, 111th Engineer Brigade and is headquartered in Red House, W.Va.
