A Soldier of the West Virginia Army National Guard’s 249th Army Band uses a high-powered blower to clear debris and establish a fire line during basic wildland fire suppression training, conducted by the West Virginia Division of Forestry in Morgantown, West Virginia, Oct. 3, 2019. The training covered basic wildland fire fighting techniques including understanding fire behavior, suppression tactics and techniques, crew organization, communications, and crew safety and awareness, with the goal of providing WNVG Soldiers the basic skills and experience to operate on a fire line side-by-side with experienced Division of Forestry personnel. Full Spectrum Wellness Day provides tools for Airmen resilience

New assualt landing zone- keeping the dream alive

Master Sgt. Alan Romero, 167th Airlift Wing airfield manager, looks at a schematic showing where visual landing zone marker panels would be placed on an airfield for assault landing practice. The orange VLZMP in the photo was designed and fabricated at the 167th AW. Romero, and the airfield management team, are working with officials at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria Airport in Johnstown, Pa., to use a runway there for C-17 Globemaster III aircraft assault landing practice. Expanded site investigation underway at 167th Airlift Wing

Cascade Drilling, LLC, uses a sonic rig to drill a monitoring well at the 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard, Sept. 25, 2019.  The drilling is part of an expanded site investigation for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in and around the Martinsburg, W.Va. air base. The 167th AW's use of aqueous film forming foam, AFFF, for fighting petroleum fires, contained PFAS, and is thought to have migrated to the Big Springs Deep Well which provides water for the City of Martinsburg.
