Chief Master Sergeant Scott Melton is the State Command Chief Master Sergeant, West Virginia Air National Guard, Charleston, W.Va. He is the principal advisor to the Assistant Adjutant General and his senior staff on matters of health, welfare and morale, professional development, and the effective utilization of more than 2,200 enlisted personnel assigned to the state. He maintains close relationships with commanders, Chief Master Sergeants, First Sergeants, the Airmen and Family Programs Coordinator and other senior leaders to advise them on the care of Airmen and their families
On December 18, 1997, Chief Melton enlisted in the Air National Guard. He completed Basic Military Training and graduated in November 1998. Following his graduation from Supply Management Technical School, Chief Melton returned to the 130th Logistics Readiness Squadron, where he assumed a full-time position as a Materials Handler in the warehouse. He served in his original Air Force Specialty Code until 2009, when he cross-trained to Comptroller Flight as an Accounting Technician. During his tenure in the Comptroller Flight, he advanced through various roles, including Accounting Liaison Officer and Financial Inventory-Audit Readiness Non-Commissioned Officer.
During his extensive 29-year career with the Air National Guard, Chief Melton played a pivotal role in various operations, including organizing financial planning for FLINTLOCK exercises in Germany and participating in multiple flood relief efforts in West Virginia. Most recently, he served with the 9th Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base, where he successfully managed the Military Personnel Appropriation program from inception to completion. His leadership led to the development of the first Military Personnel Appropriation tracker for the Numbered Air Force, enhancing visibility and accuracy for Senior Leaders. Chief Melton also served as the State Military Personnel Management Officer for the West Virginia Air National Guard, providing guidance and command support to Headquarters West Virginia Air National Guard, the 130th Airlift Wing, and the 167th Airlift Wing. Prior to his current position, Chief Melton served as the 130th Maintenance Group Senior Enlisted Leader.
