CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
This week's Spotlight, Sgt. 1st Class Keisha Lynn George, has proudly served the West Virginia Army National Guard for more than 19 years. She resides in her hometown of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and holds the position of 92G Culinary Management NCO at the Camp Dawson Training Center, where she manages operations for range control and other assigned tasks during duty weekends and annual training.
Throughout her career, George enlisted in 2004 as a 92Y (unit supply specialist), transitioned to an Active Guard Reserve supply NCO in 2008, and later reclassified as a 21K (plumber) before deploying with the 115th Engineer Company. Her career also includes a stint as the medical detachment supply NCO and multiple reclassifications, ultimately becoming a 92G culinary NCOIC for the 154th Military Police Company and 1201st Transportation Company.
George holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Charleston. She also works full-time as a federal technician with the United States Property and Fiscal Officer in West Virginia, where she has held roles in contracting, logistics and military pay.
Outside of her professional life, she enjoys hiking, camping, and spending quality time with her daughter and their dogs.
Inspired by a deep sense of patriotism, George joined the military with a determination to protect her country and family. Her grandfather, uncles, and brother also served, continuing a proud family tradition of military service. Her most memorable moments include witnessing Soldiers she trained rise to the rank of NCO—a testament to her commitment to mentorship.
Her advice to those considering the WVARNG is straightforward: “If you want experience and to learn things that others aren’t brave enough to do, you should join the WVNG.”
She emphasizes the value of camaraderie and friendships formed throughout her career, which have enriched both her personal and professional life.
Looking ahead, George aims to open her own business and is proud of the lifelong friendships and extensive networking opportunities she has gained in the WVARNG. She sees her work as crucial to the safety and security of the state and nation and is honored to be part of the WVARNG community.
