By Erica Bodker West Virginia National Guard West Virginia National Guard

Lt. Col. Joshua Greenspan, from Reston, Va., brings extensive experience to his role as the Chief of Standards and Evaluations for the 167th Operations Group, 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia National Guard. With 12 years of active duty and seven years in the National Guard, Greenspan excels as a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft instructor and evaluator pilot, assessing combat-ready aircrews and performing critical worldwide airlift missions.

Greenspan’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in geography from the United States Air Force Academy, an MBA from Colorado State University, and completion of both Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College. His flying experience spans C-17 bases and includes a role as a first officer at FedEx, flying MD-11, B-757, and B-767 aircraft.

Outside of his military career, Greenspan loves snowboarding and cheering on his kids at their sports events. He takes pride in the extensive C-17 flying experience he brings to the 167th AW, a skill he refined through active duty at multiple bases and advanced training at the schoolhouse in Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

His personal and professional goals center on raising successful children, supporting his family and maintaining a fulfilling flying career.

Greenspan joined the military to become a pilot, following in the footsteps of his father, brother, and grandfathers, all of whom have served in various branches of the military. He fondly recalls the moment he took his oath in the West Virginia National Guard, marked by a breathtaking view over the mountains—a sign that he had made the right decision.

He values the strong family orientation within the WVNG and the supportive environment it provides. His advice to potential recruits is to recognize the WVNG as an organization that rewards dedication and hard work, offering a fulfilling career path for those committed to excellence.

At 41 years old, Greenspan continues to make significant contributions to the WVNG and the broader mission of safe and effective airlift operations, both domestically and globally.
