167th Airlift Wing wins award for aviation fuel efficiency

167th Airlift Wing

The 167th Airlift Wing, West Virginia Air National Guard, is the 2018 Mobility Air Forces Aviation Energy and Innovation award winner for the C-17 mobility aircraft category.

The wing was selected due to its significant contributions to effective and efficient aviation fuel usage.

“This award is directly related to the habits, culture and professionalism we instill in our aircrew here at the 167th Airlift Wing,” said Col. David Cochran, 167th AW commander. “Our pilots consistently flight plan and mission manage with a focus on responsible fuel use.”

The objective award uses fuel efficiency ratings to determine the winners of the annual award. A wing’s efficiency rating is based on its average aviation fuel burn rate normalized for the aircraft, cargo weight, mission type and sortie length relative to the 2011 enterprise baseline burn rate.

This marks the second time the wing has been recognized for an aviation fuel efficiency award. In the 2014 the 167th AW won the Air Mobility Command’s Fuel Efficiency Award in the C-5 aircraft category.
