167th delivers recovery equipment to Florida

By Senior Master Sgt. Emily Beightol-Deyerle 167th Airlift Wing

The 167th Airlift Wing’s C-17 Globemaster III aircraft delivered more than 84 tons of equipment to aid in the recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael.

Eight days after the category four storm made landfall on Florida’s panhandle, the wing transported equipment from New Mexico to Florida, followed by a second trip a week later.

The 167th flew a C-17 to Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., Oct. 17, and picked up six generators and a large area maintenance shelter supplied from the 635th Materiel Maintenance Group. The 635th MMG is a Basic Expeditionary Airfield Resources (BEAR) unit responsible for the storage, inspection, repair, deployment, and accountability of BEAR assets belonging to Air Force Materiel Command and Air Combat Command.

The equipment was transported to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., where a contingency response team from the 821st Contingency Response Group, Travis Air Force Base., Calif., assisted with the offload and took control of the equipment to assist with ongoing recovery efforts at the base.

The wing supported a second mission the following week and transported equipment from Holloman A.F.B. to Tyndall A.F.B., including a large, tri-axle generator, light carts, a water purification pallet, and several other pallets of miscellaneous equipment and supplies.

“We were happy to assist with the transport of equipment to Tyndall. Our folks may say ‘it’s all in a day’s work’ but the equipment they’ve delivered is essential to the recovery efforts and rebuilding of the base there,” said Col. Marty Timko, 167th Operations Group commander.
