Courtesy photograph of the wildland fire that 1st Sgt. John Russell of the West Virginia National Guard's 249th Band was confronted with near his home in Winchester, Virginia, November 19, 2020. Russell utilized basic wildland firefighting training he received with the West Virginia Division of Forestry (WVDOF) in October of 2019 as part of an ongoing partnership to quickly allow Guardsmen to supplement and safely operate with WVDOF personnel in the event of large-scale wildland fires in West Virginia to rapidly help contain the fire and save a neighbors home from potential damage.
