RUPERT, W.Va. –
Staff Sgt. Colten Dorsey, from Rupert, West Virginia, is a member of the 130th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Environmental Enhanced Response Force Package Medical Detachment and a September 2024 spotlight. With five years of service as a medical technician and search and extraction medic, Dorsey specializes in triage and lifesaving interventions during CBRNE attacks.
Dorsey’s journey in the military has included a variety of assignments and responsibilities. He supported COVID-19 efforts with testing, vaccinations and contact tracing, and has participated in numerous CERF-P missions, including high-profile events such as the State of the Union and presidential inaugurations. His training includes trauma courses and advanced medical certifications.
With an associate degree in nursing from the University of Charleston, Dorsey is also an emergency room nurse at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. Dorsey said his civilian experience allows him to apply critical thinking and advanced patient care skills in his military career. His future goals include advancing in critical care with flight nursing or critical care transport and obtaining his family nurse practitioner certification to work in pediatrics.
After high school, Dorsey joined the military as a bridge, and that is where he discovered a deep passion for patient and critical care. His service has been supported by educational benefits such as the West Virginia Promise Scholarship and Military Tuition Assistance.
He advises those considering enlisting or commissioning to take the leap, emphasizing that the military offers numerous opportunities to find one’s passion and path in life. For him, serving in the WVNG represents a chance to make a significant impact both locally and nationally.
At age 23, Dorsey continues his dedication to service, commitment to personal and professional growth, and support for his community and country.
