By Erica Bodker West Virginia National Guard

West Virginia National Guard civilian employee Travis Stone is the Spotlight for Aug. 4, 2024. Travis hails from Buffalo, West Virginia,  and serves as the Director of the Apple Program at Patriot Guardens, converting reclaimed coal mine property into agricultural hubs.

With five years of service, Travis's journey began in finance before transitioning to procurement officer at Patriot Guardens and eventually to his current role. His bachelor's degree in health promotion and wellness fuels his passion for outdoor activities like farming and kayaking. With a leadership style that emphasizes hands-on involvement and respect, and has earned him trust among his team.

One of his fondest memories is his unexpected promotion to Director of the Apple Program, marked by a symbolic passing of the signature pen on his birthday. Stone's proudest achievement is the transformation of a reclaimed coal mine into a thriving apple orchard.

His vision extends to educating future generations about agriculture and sustainability. Stone values the WVNG's supportive community and emphasizes the importance of leading by example. He encourages others to seize opportunities within the Guard, and its potential for personal and professional growth.
