CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
This week, the RISE West Virginia program officially placed all homes in the flood recovery program under contract for construction, rehabilitation or mobile home replacement through five contractors.
“I could not be more proud of the work that has taken place over the last two years by all involved parties – including the Department of Commerce, U.S. Housing and Urban Development, our State Resiliency Office and Guard personnel to name a few - who have worked with deliberate speed to make this happen,” stated Hoyer. “When Governor Justice gave us this task, I knew it would be a difficult challenge, but our number one goal has always been to take care of West Virginians until they are all recovered, and this is a monumental step forward in the right direction”
Since our last update, contractors with the RISE West Virginia program completed final inspections on three additional projects, bringing the total number of completed homes to 232.
There are currently 48 homes in active construction, an increase of 17, through four different contractors in the housing program. Of the 48 homes in active construction, 43 are reconstruction projects, one is a rehabilitation project and four are mobile home units. Eight of the aforementioned projects are in demolition and four additional projects were slated for final inspection this week.
There are 173 active cases in the RISE West Virginia program. The current breakdown by construction type is as follows: 232 homes are complete, 131 cases require total reconstruction, three cases require some form of rehabilitation actions, and 38 cases require new mobile home replacement.
The Clearance and Demolition program has completed 18 projects. At this time, there are 269 projects in the active case management process and 100 of those projects are in environmental review process. The Clearance and Demolition program is still accepting applications in all counties affected by the 2016 flood.
VOAD crews continue to work on the 21st and 22nd bridge home projects. VOAD currently has 41 bridge projects in the case management process.
