Charlie West Spotlight October

By Senior Airman Caleb Vance 130th Airlift Wing

The Charlie West Spotlight for October is Tech. Sgt. Allison Campbell, a Paralegal assigned the 130th Airlift Wing (AW) Legal Office.

As a Paralegal, Campbell’s primary duty is to function as an assistant to the 130th’s Judge Advocate General (JAG), but she also has a wide scope of legal duties to include performing research as needed, preparing claims and assessing legal filings. She also serves as the initial point of contact that members have with the legal office.

Campbell joined the Air Guard in 2010 as a Knowledge Operations Management Craftsman for the 130th Maintenance Group after graduating from Saint Albans High School. She transitioned to the legal office in 2016, where she served as the only full-time paralegal.

In 2019, she accepted a position as a paralegal in the West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) headquarters. Campbell’s new position has fostered many new challenges and opportunities by working in a joint environment and assisting the State JAG.

“This position has afforded me the opportunity to work at a higher level, adding joint experience, increased responsibility and the ability to work in an oversight role,” Campbell said. “I value the work I do by helping Soldiers and Airman in the WVNG maintain readiness by helping with their personal matters, family situations, and estate planning and preparedness.”

Her goals in her civilian life are to finish her bachelor’s degree, continue to rise in her career as a Paralegal and to eventually open a business.

In her free time, Campbell enjoys water skiing, wakeboarding, fishing, hunting, yoga, hiking and spending time with her dogs. Her love for dogs has led her to training others to become better dog owners by starting an apprenticeship with a local dog trainer.

“I love having the ability to see a relationship build between a dog owner and dog as their understanding of one another grows,” said Campbell. “It's a blast getting to know human and dog personalities, observing behavior changes, and seeing a crazy dog become a well-mannered part of the family.”

Campbell’s favorite thing about the 130th AW is being around so many different people with a variety of skillsets, trades and cultures.

“Whatever you need, there is someone in this unit that can help you,” explained Campbell. “Also, I love the family environment here.”

The family environment aspect recently became more special to Campbell, when her husband joined the 130th Civil Engineering Squadron in September 2019.

“The best day of my life was when I married my best friend, Colton,” Campbell said. “I couldn’t be happier to have him as a part of the guard family.”

Campbell’s high-speed performance makes it obvious as to why she was chosen as this month’s Charlie West Spotlight.

“Tech. Sgt. Campbell has three distinct traits that show what kind of Airman she is,” said 130th AW JAG Lt. Col. Jorene Soto. “She’s steady under pressure, she always maintains a positive attitude and she strives to do her best every day.”
