CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
The Soldier spotlight for the month of June is Spc. Tyler Hamilton, a combat engineer with the 119th Sapper Company.
Hamilton is a Harpers Ferry, West Virginia native and when he is not serving part time in the West Virginia Army National Guard, he’s a fire fighter. He is a graduate of West Virginia University and enjoys working out and being outdoors.
He is a two and a half year member of the WVARNG who has already set big goals for himself and accomplished significant milestones in his short career. His favorite memory with his unit has been training alongside foreign militaries last year as a part of Sabre Junction, a military training exercise held in Germany.
“Spc. Hamilton is always striving to learn and becoming a better warfighter; not only for himself but for the Sapper Company overall,” said 119th Sapper Co. First Sgt. Barry Moore. “Within the first year and a half after completing basic training, Spc. Hamilton completed Air Assault School and Ranger School. He is the first Ranger graduate for the 119th Sapper Company and immediately after graduation, he was ready to start training other Soldiers on the craft he had learned.”
Hamilton noted that his proudest moment in the WVARNG so far has been graduating from Ranger School and his goals are to continue his career in the Guard and grow, learn and teach others as much as possible.
“SPC Hamilton puts other before himself. He leads from the front and accomplishes assigned missions/tasks. His selfless attitude, high motivation, and genuine care for others reflects the 119th Sapper Company values,” said Moore.
Hamilton stated that his favorite thing about the National Guard is, “The fact that you’re always able to learn new things and techniques and apply them to your job. In addition, the people you meet from all over who become your lifelong friends, even after your service ends is an added bonus.”
