The Charlie West Spotlight for January 2019 is Fairmont, W.Va. native, Airman 1st Class Sarah Landis, an Intelligence Analyst assigned to the 130th Operations Group.
Landis’s job requires her to conduct unit level intel in support of day to day operations for the 130th Airlift Wing. This includes researching, analyzing and disseminating intelligence to ensure our Airmen have the information they need to safely and successfully complete the mission.
“A1C Landis takes on all given tasks with a can do attitude,” explained Lt. Col. Jeffery Bevins, 130th Airlift Wing Chief of Intelligence. “There’s no mission she can’t accomplish and is an example for her peers. She constantly strives to improve herself and no goal is out of her reach.”
Although she has only been serving in the unit for less than a year, she’s already taken pride in the 130th and her service.
“I have already developed an appreciation for both the 130th and the military in general,” explained Landis. “They have helped me grow in both a personal and professional level. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with a great deal of good people who’ve inspired me to do better as a person and an Airman.”
Her goals in the military are to learn and grow as an intelligence analyst.
In her civilian life, she will be starting a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in mid-January. She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in criminal justice from Fairmont State University. Her goal is to pursue a long career in criminal justice.
Landis’s hobbies are centered on the outdoors. Hiking and kayaking are her two favorite activities, but she also enjoys volunteering in the local community. She spent much of her free time in tech school volunteering in the community of San Angelo, near Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.
“I loved volunteering at the local rodeo and Sunrise, an equine assisted therapy program for children and adults with mental issues,” she said. “It was so rewarding.”
Family is the thing that Landis is most proud of.
“I am proudest of the family I have in my life,” she explained. “They’re always ready to help me when I need it and constantly encourage me to do the things that I’m afraid to do.”
