130th Airlift Wing promotes newest Chief

By Airman 1st Class Caleb Vance 130th Airlift Wing

The 130th Airlift Wing added a new Chief to its ranks August 4, 2018, at McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, Charleston, W.Va.

Senior Master Sgt. Jason Evans became Chief Master Sgt. Jason Evans and Chief of the Force Support Squadron (FSS) at a formal promotion ceremony in the “Props and Wings” Cafe, which was presided over by Lt. Col. David Lester, 130th FSS Commander.

Evans was accompanied by his wife, Tracy and daughter Morgan, and special guests included Brig. Gen. Paige Hunter, West Virginia National Guard Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Brig. Gen. Christopher Walker, Chief of Staff of the West Virginia Air National Guard and (Ret,) Col. Jody Richmond, former 130th Operations Group Commander and family.

Evans joined the active duty Air Force in 1992 and later joined the 130th in 2000 where he worked in the Aerial Port Squadron. He served there almost 14 years and then transitioned to the Logistics Plans Office for the Logistics Readiness Squadron, where he served for four years.

“He earned this position himself and theres nobody else that deserves it more than him,” Lester stated.

As he accepted the “Chief’s Jeep” a symbol of the newest chief of the wing, and longtime tradition among the 130th Chiefs, Evans spoke highly of his peers and family who’d helped him get to this point in his career.

“I remember being young and thinking about one day being a Chief, thinking that it was impossible,” said Evans. “And now that I’m here, I owe it to everyone in this room for helping me get to where I am today.”
