CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
Each February, West Virginia National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and civilians join in the nation’s celebration of Black History Month. In 2023, the theme of “Inspiring Change” epitomizes the contributions of African Americans and their allies who are committed to challenging racial inequities and promoting opportunities for equal advancement.
As we go throughout this month, I encourage our One Guard Family to listen more, seek understanding, embrace our diversity, and celebrate the service, commitment and sacrifices made by African Americans and their allies from our past and present. Be inspired by those who have come before us, who serve beside us and work to advance the nation’s greatest fighting force.
Take that inspiration and continue to build and strengthen our military that values loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage, and excellence in all we do.
