Command Sergeant Major Chadwick L. Moneypenny

Command Sergeant Major Chadwick L. Moneypenny is the West Virginia Army National Guard State Command Sergeant Major. In his current position, CSM Moneypenny represents and advises The Assistant Adjutant General Army on matters pertaining to policies and actions that affect the nearly 4,000 enlisted Soldiers of the West Virginia Army National Guard.

CSM Moneypenny enlisted in the active duty Army in 1993 and attended Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served on active duty until 1999 where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. During his time on active duty, he served as a team leader and deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Restore/Uphold Democracy.

In 1999, he transitioned into the West Virginia Army National Guard and was assigned to A Co., 1092 Engineer Battalion where he served as a Team Leader.  In 2001, he was assigned C Co., 1092 Engineer Battalion where he served as Squad Leader and deployed to Iraq from 2003 to 2004. In 2005, he was assigned to the 601st Engineer Company where he served as a Platoon Sergeant.  After being promoted to First Sergeant, he served as First Sergeant for the 821st Engineer Company from 2007-2011, which also included a deployment to Iraq. After this deployment, he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge for Task Force Benedum in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of command sergeant major and was assigned to the 771st Troop Command Battalion. In 2013, he was transferred to the 151st Military Police Battalion where he served as the Command Sergeant Major. In 2016, CSM Moneypenny was assigned as the 111th Engineer Brigade Command Sergeant Major.  Prior to his current assignment, CSM Moneypenny was assigned to the Soldier Recovery Brigade, National Capital Region as the Command Sergeant Major. 

In his civilian career, CSM Moneypenny has served as a sergeant with the Lewis County Deputy Sheriff’s Office.  He holds a Regents Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia State University.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (with 2 Knots), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with M Device, Silver Hour Glass), Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (with 2 Bronze Stars), NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Navy-Marine Presidential Unit Citation, and Joint Meritorious Unit Award. His state awards include the West Virginia Special Assignment Ribbon, West Virginia State Service Ribbon (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters) West Virginia Emergency Service Ribbon (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), and District of Columbia Community Service Ribbon.
